VPS (Virtual Private Server) Guide
It is essential to use a VPS for two reasons. First is that you cannot trust your home PC to run 24 hours a day and have uninterrupted Internet connection. The second is the long delay between your computer and the broker's server - which will be between 80ms and 250ms depending on your location and connection. This delay is doubled by the time the EA gets confirmation of anything it has done. By contrast, my VPS has a 1ms delay. This makes a huge difference in practice and allows MUCH more accurate placing of trades and TPs.
This improvement will more than pay for the cost plus you can relax and forget about whether everything is running properly, not to mention it completely frees up your computer.
Traders Way will give you a free VPS if you have over $1,000 and/or your trading volume exceeds 10 Lots a month. This is very easy to do using the OilBiz EA. FX Choice only have very expensive VPS so you must use Vultr!
My personal favourite is at the top of the page, Vultr. You need to be a little computer savvy to use it but the fact that it's not only cheap but charged by the minute and comes with a full use control panel means you have effectively as many VPS as you like, almost anywhere in the world. You can choose numerous locations in the US, Europe, the UK, Japan and Australia. Choose Amsterdam for, Forex Time, Traders Way and FX Choice and New York for AvaTrade. You can run two MT4s from the same VPS. It is also faster and better than the free ones.
Be careful though, it's a little misleading that their services can be has for $7 a month because you need a Windows Server and that is $26 a month. Choose the Windows 64bit Server. But, unlike BeeksFX (most famous VPS), that doesn't tie you to the server you signed up for because you can create other VPS in your control panel and 'destroy' them whenever you like. This can be useful for running a demo and a live MT4 from the same broker and gives you flexibility to change brokers and still have the best location for your VPS. No comprehensive instructions, though. Vultr opens up in about 3 seconds, BeeksFX in about 12 seconds...
The basic technique is to open up File Explorer from the taskbar of your VPS, which will show the drives on your home computer so you can copy and paste any files you need. For example, download the setup file for your MT4 and copy/past or drag it onto your VPS desktop, double click it and install MetaTrader on the VPS. Copy and paste any tpl and ex4 files from your home MT4 into the Data Folder of your VPS MT4 and you are ready to go.
Updating Windows is managed by beeks but can be a problem with vultr. I strongly recommend running Windows Update from with Control Panel after creation and then completely turning off Windows Update. The problem is that automatic updates will initiate a restart which will mess up your trading sequence.
You will find having a VPS makes life much easier as you never have to worry about keeping MT4 running on your computer, power cuts, Internet connections or somebody else messing things up while you are out of the room! Not only that but the increased speed of connection will greatly improve the workings of the EA as it it always able to open trades and set TPs as the exact right price.
